At the XIX. Festival del Habano 2017, Habanos S.A. presented the new premium line of the Montecristo brand of cigars. It is named for its year in which the company was founded, „Línea 1935“.
"Maltés" (production name Sobresalientes, length 135 mm, ring gauge 53) is the medium format among the three. It has been used before, in some special editions and Ediciones Regionales.
All three formats are longfillers. They are all made traditionally by hand - „totalmente a mano“. The blends of the new line are significantly stronger than the classic Montecristos or the line Edmundo. Thus, they appeal to experienced smokers and lovers of richer, spicier cigars first and foremost.
All three formats are offered in cases of twenty. The cases' design is completely new, lacquered in a matte, warm brown, against which the logo and brandname are set in gold.
For the first time the Habanos' history, the cigars brandish a third ring at the foot of the cigar. It depicts a Fleur-de-Lys, which has been differentiating Montecristo among other brands from the very beginning.
